What’s New?
Family trees: How are the different US families related?
--------------
You might know, two or more Andrist main families emigrated from Switzerland to
KS and OH/MN areas. So far they were not supposed to be related with each other.
In Swiss Church books we now found proof of the fact that at least some of
Andrist families have known each other. Although some were registered as
witnesses for marriage or baptism, unfortunately we still don't know how exactly
they are related. For our Andrists families in the US this means, you are
supposed to be 'far cousins' in a way or another. ;-) How ever, if you would
like to find out how you tie into the families, please start checking for your
roots at http://family.andrist.com
Family reunion: August 3rd 2002 in MN, USA
---------------
As you now found out you are all far cousins; you might like to attend the
coming family reunion in Mantorville, MN, USA, at least if you are living close
to this place. Please visit the following page to learn more about. RSVP to
Roberta if you would like to attend http://www.andrist.net/family/reunion.htm
. Although you might not be able to attend, Roberta will take care of your
family pictures you would like to share with others for this event.
Swissfest: August, 2nd/3rd 2002 in Berne, MN, USA
---------------
The same day family reunion takes place in Berne Minnesota; the famous Swissfest
will take place as well. - I would like to recommend the Swissfest at Berne, MN,
to all citizens of the State of Minnesota or neighboring States. I think it's a
very authentic way to get back to the way your ancestors used to live. http://www.andrist.net/berne.htm
. Many Andrists are living close to Berne, MN. Why not meeting up there in
August 2002?
E-Mail - Andrists from Argentina welcomes your e-mails:
-------------
Our virtual family grew over time. Not less than 200 Andrists or related people
got registered with the e-mail list at http://email.andrist.com
. Although they hardly could read our English Web pages, some Andrists living in
Argentina registered for news in the meantime. They are very happy to get
e-mails from either European Andrists or US. Please keep in mind: you should
translate your letter into Spanish.
Guest book: Help other Andrists with their researches
-------------
Many visitors left a note, very often including how they tie into the trees.
More and more people are asking for help regarding their Andrist researches. Any
feed back from your side would be greatly appreciated, as I personally have
little time to answer all registrations. You will find the guest book at http://guestbook.andrist.com
See the Andrist Mountains and Andrist sites on the web:
--------------
By permission of the copyrights owner we published the Mt. Niesen postcard. It's
a 360 degree view from a peek, giving a wonderful overview over the alps
including Wild and Zahm (Tame) Andrist mountains and the Simme valley
(Simmental) where most of the Andrist had their home before they left the old
world. Enjoy http://www.andrist.net/events/ch20020602Niesen/
(as pictures are of high resolution, loading may take its time). Just in case
you show up in Switzerland, make sure you don't miss this peek.
Keep yourself updated:
-----------
We'd recommend visiting http://www.andrist.net/family/updated.htm

Special thanks
----------
There have been many people contributing to the Andrist home page since last
newsletters: Tom and Cherie Andrist, Douglas Andrist, Rebecca Lynn Andrist,
Shirley Andrist, Charles M. Andrist, Albert Andrist, Alberto Andrist, Aida
Kaenel, Carlos Raul Andrist. Debbie Andrist again helped to translate letters
from Argentina in her spare time. Thank you all very much. Special thanks also
go to Robbin Andrist who transcribed hundred of records for the descendants of
the Kansas families. Last but not least Jill (Andrist) Miller who initially
gathered more than thousand records; she still updates and cross checks records
we get.
Your own @andrist.com e-mail or home page:
------------
You might want to have the own real Andrist address for your e-mail or your home
page. Check http://mail.andrist.com
Next to come:
------------
The family records for Aeschi place of origin will be transcribed. - The Andrist
e-mail list will be promoted. This list will enable interested people to keep
contact in a closed user group by e-mail. More about: http://www.andrist.net/family/andrist-mail-list.htm
Improving the Web page
----------
I hope you don't mind my typos and bad grammar in this letter. I somehow feel I
didn't really improve my English skills due to the lack of time for additional
lessons ;-).
If you feel you could help to improve the web page, add information to the family trees or correct errors please feel free to contact the editor at Andrist.com .

Dear Andrists and genealogy enthousiasts ---------------------------------------- This Newsletter is to inform you of major updates on the Andrist Home Page. More than a year passed since I released the last newsletter. More active visitors of the Andrist Home Page might know why it has taken so long to write another newsletter. All the available time was spent in gathering information on Andrist genealogy and on history. The page grew fast. Updates have been made almost twice a week. It's about 12 Mega bytes of web content now. The counter is at almost 3900 hits in total since February 1997 and at 7 to 10 visits a day. Visitors on a regularly base use the 'update' page ( http://www.andrist.net/family/updates.htm ) to learn what's new on the page. But let me give you a brief overview what's new since last newsletter: E-mail: ---------- The virtual Andrist family grows. Now we have about 122 e-mail addresses registered that's 68 more since last newsletter: http://www.andrist.net/family/andriste.htm Phone and Address List: ---------- Many Andrists also wanted to be listed on the phone and address list which was based on publicly available sources: http://www.andrist.net/family/phoneus.htm We also found Andrists living in Argentina which Debra Andrist (our Spanish Professor in the family) will contact soon. Andrist memorials: --------- Did you know there is a Cal Andrist sports ground in Crosby, ND, or there is an Andrist memorial plate in a park in Temple City, CA. There is a city called Andristara (... ara is a common extension for a town) in Honduras ... this and more you can learn from http://www.andrist.net/family/memorial.htm Family Pictures: ---------- Some of the Andrists asked whether pictures might be uploaded. I started uploading old pictures of our ancestors I got from Minnesota and from Kansas and some more on Andrists I met during my Andrist vacation in the USA. Feel free to send some of your tree. http://www.andrist.net/family/pictures.htm Documents and improved family trees: ---------- Pictures of some official documents have been added like maps showing where Andrists homesteaded in Kansas, ground certificates, church records and others. In the same time many hundred records have been added to the trees. Overview of the family trees ---------------- Some more trees of Swiss residents have also been added. There is an overview on all trees on http://www.andrist.net/family/andristf.htm We basically identify two main US Andrist trees: ----------------------- The descendants of Boltigen (Switzerland) families: --> OH;MN;ND; Canada at http://www.andrist.net/family/jillspage.htm The descendants of St.Stephan (home place)/Oberwil (rights of citizenship) families: --> Kansas at http://www.andrist.net/family/jills3pa.htm There is no known link between these families so far (status of research: about 1790...) Chat: ---------- Only few Andrists met so far at Chat page I now would like to recommend. It is an easy to use tool for written chat to people active in the same chat place. 'Official' Andrist chat time is at 02:30 p.m. Pacific time on Mondays. http://www.andrist.net/family/chat.htm Local history: ---------- For all the Andrist places of origin (the places where all Andrist families had their Swiss rights of citizenship, which might be different from their place they lived) I added some information on local history and pictures on the houses or churches. Aeschi bei Spiez http://www.andrist.net/family/aeschi.htm Boltigen http://www.andrist.net/family/boltigen.htm Daerstetten http://www.andrist.net/family/daerstetten.htm Erlenbach im S. http://www.andrist.net/family/erlenbach.htm Oberwil http://www.andrist.net/family/oberwil.htm Individual Andrist web pages ---------- As the virtual Andrist community grows, there are more and more web pages referring to Andrists. In the search engines the most references are found for Ralph K. Andrist (his books are famous), John Andrist (ND State Senator) and Audrey Andrist (many concerts listed). Some Andrist have individual pages. 14 pages have been added since last newsletter. Now 30 links to individual pages are available http://www.andrist.net/family/webandr.htm Guest book ---------- Some people keep in contact through the guest book or report from their researches at http://www.andrist.net/family/guestboo.htm Swissfest ---------- I would like to recommend the Swissfest at Berne, MN, to all citizens of the State of Minnesota or neighboring States. I think it's a very authentic way to get back to the way your ancestors used to live. http://www.andrist.net/berne.htm. Many Andrists are living close to Berne, MN.
