Several family shields are known to exist for the Andrist name. Not all branches have one; e.g., for Daerstetten there is no figure available. Research into family shields over the last 50 years has further found individual interpretations with an St. Andrew's cross. This makes a lot of sense, because the name Andrist is a folksy version of ‘Andreas’. [St. Andreas crosses were further often found encarved in the roof beams of Simmental houses as a sign for protection.] The Aeschi bei Spiez and the Boltigen shields have been registered in recent time by individuals. They are based on the Oberwil figure but use a different background color. All of the following figures are scanned from the sources of the State Archive of Canton Berne except Oberwil #3.
